  • The ManLions are all made from wire, masking tape, recycled fabric (OP shop), cotton thread, recycled wool (from futon mattress manufacturer) and off cuts of wood (from skip bin from cabinetmakers workshop).

Text by Rebecca Richards:

Swedish born artist Cecilia Fogelberg's ManLions emerge from an otherworld of folktales, myths and fables. A place perhaps imagined from the deep forests of her childhood village or an in-between place for a self acknowledged cultural exile.

Skillfully handstitched from salvaged materials, these soft-toy man-beasts belie the analysis of female and male sexuality, gender and 'otherness'. These cute 'n' cuddly plush toys are stuffed with the sexy, dark humor inherent in Fogelberg's work.

Fogelberg has held solo shows at Craft Victoria, VIC, 2008, A-Space on Cleveland, NSW, 2007 and Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts, VIC, 2006. She has been represented in exhibitions at regional institutions including Hands On: Craft in Contemporary Art, Hazelhurst Regional Gallery & Art Centre, NSW, 2011 and Stitched, Penrith Regional Gallery & Lewers Bequest, NSW, 2008 and was the winner of the Linden Postcard Show, Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts, Melbourne in 2006.
